Invent Theatre is pleased to announce more details on a new play to be performed this year.
The production, which will be our first staged performance is planned for late spring 2008 although no dates have been confirmed at this point. As with all our work, almost every role will be taken by young people. The play has been written by myself and is my second attempt at a full length drama, following on from The Bench in the Park which was performed last year at Medina Theatre. The play itself is very different from my last, and its themes of imagination, isolation and memory owe to a change in style as well.
The name of the play relates to the name of a book, that acts as the centre piece of the story. The term ‘Asphodel’ is Greek, and was a mythical location for the souls of those unable to reach the Elysian Fields (Heaven) or the underworld (Hell). It was believed to be a great meadow, that never ended and was home to many who were caught between life and death. In this production the term is used to describe a characters situation, and in effect, used to describe the feeling of imagination, between reality and dreams.
The tale of a book, and of how it can change lives. ’The Asphodel Fields’ is the tale of a woman who discovers, through time and the power of a book, the influence of imagination and it’s ability to set people free.
We are currently looking for more members to be involved in this project, in all areas. Visit our website for more information or e-mail us at inventtheatre(at)gmail(dot)com
If you would be interested in sponsoring this exciting new project we are always on the look out for supporters
I will be posting more details on the production as it progresses.

Invent Theatre is pleased to announce that the first stage of casting has been completed for our first performance. The play, written by Jack Whitewood, who last year created ‘The Bench in the Park’ will be our first production and is scheduled to be performed in Spring/Summer 2008 and we will be posting more news on this exciting project as it progresses.
If you are interested in sponsoring this production, we are currently looking for supporters so please feel free to contact us via our website for further information on the promotional advantages we can offer you.
We felt that readers of the Inventor’s Blog may also be interested in other opportunities in the local area. Because of these, when we received an e-mail from a local theatre group, we felt pleased to post an exciting opportunity for young people on the blog. This is what they had to say:
The Ventnor Amateur Theatre Group are very proud and excited to be bringing ‘BUDDY’ the world’s most successful rock ‘n roll musical to the Ventnor Winter Gardens in May. The musical tells the story of the last 3 years of Buddy Holly’s life, from his initial success and hit records (True Love Ways, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and more) to his tragic death at the age of just 22.
Our auditions will be held at the Winter Gardens, on Sunday 20th January starting at 2.00pm, and we are particularly looking for young male performers, must be able to sing and act with convincing american accents. Audition material can be obtained in advance from Val on 730674, or available on the day. Rehersals will take place approx 7.30pm on week nights (to be decided) at the Winter Gardens.
The Final production will be performed on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th May 2008 so if you think your up for the challenge why not get involved?
