last Thursday saw Invent Theatre at the ‘Careers 4 All’ Event, held at Medina Leisure Centre. The convention was an excellent opportunity for us to showcase ourselves and our work, and many people, of all ages, showed an interest in the organisation. Around 100 exhibitors showcased their work to audiences throughout the day, with a really great diversity of stalls, something often missing in these sort of events.
To promote Invent Theatrewe decided to create a statue, using household objects and furniture to spell ‘Invent’ (see below) Demonstrating our ambition to provide something unusual and different for audiences.
Don’t forget the ‘Careers 4 All’ event takes place tomorrow at the Medina Leisure Centre, Newport. Invent Theatre, along with many other exhibitors will be showcasing what opportunities exist for for young people on the Island, and how to get involved. The event is completely free of charge and runs from midday to 6:00pm.
The event includes the following confirmed attractions:
“The Creative Village: an arts based, active exhibition at which everything from film and DVD production to leather craft and ceramics will be represented and craft demonstrations will continue throughout the day. There will be live music, theatre performances, a retro fashion show – even an illusionist, all adding to the fun.
Competitions: over 20 prize competitions will be running throughout the day – top prizes include a tour of the Power FM studio, iPods, £100 music voucher, etc.
Platform One Music Workshops: in the theatre, a programme covering guitar workshops (led by Jim Davies of ‘The Prodigy’), sound engineering (with Steve Colley, Sound Engineer for ‘The Coral’ and ‘The Bees’), MC Workshops and DJ Scratch techniques from DJ Krooks and MC $pyda (MC $pyda’s ‘Black Tarantula’ is one of the biggest selling drum ‘n’ bass singles of recent years).
WRITE BITES: a full creative writing conference led by industry professionals like Beverley Birch, Senior Editor for Hodder Children’s Books and prize winning author in her own right, and Sam North, Programme Leader for the MA in Creative Writing at the University of Portsmouth.
Small Workshops: a programme of small workshops will run throughout the day, covering Floristry, Photography, Sailing Careers and Enterprise Awareness, essential for anyone considering starting their own business.
Careers Convention: the biggest careers convention on the Island will include all local universities, Oxford Uni, a number of key employers like Marks & Spencer, UKSA, Waterstone’s and GCap Media Hampshire (with Power FM Thunders from 12.00 noon – 3.00 p.m). Also present will be a range of other exhibitors offering positive activities and advice – from KIDZ FILMZ to the British Horse Society and, of course, Connexions, Jobcentre Plus and NextStep.
CAREERS 4 ALL is part funded by the Local Skills for Productivity Alliance and is being staged by a steering group including Connexions, Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, The Isle of Wight College, Jobcentre Plus, Carisbrooke High School, Medina High School, NextStep and Young Chamber.”
As promised last week, here is the first video of our current project. ‘The Big Idea’, which will be performed at the ‘Careers 4 All’ event this Thursday at the Medina Leisure Centre, is a short presentation to introduce the organisation and our work. Here is a preview of the sketch we are working on for the ‘Carrers 4 All’ event in February. The event, to be held on 21st of this month at Medina Leisure Centre will be a fantastic opportunity to meet organisations and businesses from across the Island and south coast.
As part of the event, Invent Theatre will be providing entertainment in the form of street theatre and a short sketch entitled; ‘The Big Idea’. Be prepared for lots of strange happenings, unusual sights and the weird and wonderful as Invent Theatre looks into the world around us in a different light!
We will be posting more pictures and video’s next week, and don’t forget you can come along to see us at the event, as well as the any other exhibitors, which is completely free!
