Invent Theatre’s latest play hits the road from the end of this month performing across the Island to local communities. With just over a week to go until opening night we’re all very excited about this new project.
The Button Box tells the story of three brothers, a mysterious traveller, an accordion, a terrible fire, a wonky table, a hot summer, fresh coffee, church bells, a peculiar book shop and spaghetti. Not to mention some terrible jokes, a piano, a broken radio, a secret letter and an unhappy choir.
Unlike previous productions we decided it was time to visit a whole host of different areas on the Island we haven’t performed to before. The venues vary in size and facilities so we have had to make a small, portable performance which has been an interesting challenge. Coincidentally, the moral of the play itself is actually about how this is the way storeys should be told.
The play follows three brothers who are brought up by a rather eccentric spaghetti loving mother. The middle child, Benjamin Teak, soon meets, though perhaps not by coincidence, a traveller and as time goes by they decide to open a book shop to sell their stories . The books they sell however are not the works of Dickens or Shakespeare but works by themeselves about the characters around them. What starts of as a little bit of fun soon becomes their undoing as they learn more about storytelling then they could ever have dreamed of.
Mixed in with a broken radio, an unhappy choir, too much opera, an embarrassing dance, a cruel game and a fateful encounter. The Button Box is a show you won’t want to miss!
