“IT WAS A GRAND ACHIEVEMENT AND A REAL DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE MAY BE ENTRUSTED WITH”

Invent Theatre is pleased to announce the success of our first play ‘The Asphodel Fields’ which was performed at Shanklin Theatre last Saturday (31st May). The play was well recieved with very positive feedback coming from the audience.

The play told the tale of Mary, an elderly woman and sufferer of dementia. From her eyes we are told of her difficult job of bringing up two children whose father is very ill. However, by the end of the production more questions then answers are provided, with the revelation that perhaps the elderly Mary is the younger girl later in life, and that the Doctor, Guy, is in fact caring for her.

As with the production teams previous production last year; ‘The Bench in the Park’ almost all roles were taken by young people agen ten to seventeen. From the sound and lighting operation, to the acting and photography, it was another fantastic example of positive youth engagement, led entirely by young people.

Malcolm Lloyd, of Young Chamber UK said; “It was a grand achievement and a real demonstration of what young people may be entrusted with”

Work has already begun on the early stages of development for future projects, including a young writers workshop and a new play for 2009.

Invent Theatre would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters, and extend are congratulations to all those involved in what has been a completely unique initiative on the Island.

More reviews, pictures and interviews to come…
